India - Buddhist India - Sikkim - Bihar - West Bengal

Buddhist India trip

The pretext for this trip to India was to celebrate the Tibetan New Year in the Himalayas. Although there is not much going on in Sikkim for the New Year, apart from a great cleaning of the houses, this trip was once again extraordinary.

We entered India in Delhi and took the direction of the Northeast towards West Bengal where we visited the temples and the tea plantations of Darjeeling, the temples of Kalimpong before continuing our route on an extremely bumpy road towards the Sikkhim.

There we visited Gangtok, Pelling and the great Buddha of Rabongla. In Pelling we followed a ceremony of Buddhist monks for 2 hours. An unforgettable moment, even if it was not planned. On the program there were Cham dances, but unfortunately the lama of the monastery died a few days before our arrival and this ritual spectacle was canceled and replaced by this ceremony.

On the way back to Delhi we crossed Bihar where we visited Patna and the holy place where Buddha had his illumination: Bodhgaya.
