India - Rajasthan and Varanasi 2015

In 2015, a cultural journey through India offered an exploration of the cultural and historical diversity of three significant states: Delhi (NTC), Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. This route through various cities and iconic sites provided an overview of the architectural, spiritual, and social heritage of northern India.

The journey began in Delhi, the capital, where historical monuments and modern neighborhoods coexist. Key sites included the Red Fort, the Qutub Minar, and Humayun’s Tomb, showcasing the legacy of the Mughal period. Rajasthan then unveiled cities like Jaipur, with its Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort, and Jodhpur, the "Blue City," known for the Mehrangarh Fort. The journey also included less-visited locations like Bhim, Nagda, and Khichan, where local culture reveals itself in temples, forts, and even bird sanctuaries, offering unique insights into regional traditions.

Deshnoke, with its temple dedicated to sacred rats, the Sam desert near Jaisalmer, and the Jain temples of Ranakpur illustrate Rajasthan's religious and cultural diversity. In Udaipur, Lake Pichola and the City Palace exemplify the heritage of former Rajput kingdoms. The trip continued to Uttar Pradesh, with iconic sites like the Taj Mahal in Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, the former imperial capital now in ruins.

The cities of Varanasi and Sarnath provided an immersion into Hindu and Buddhist spirituality, respectively. Finally, in towns like Ramdevra and Pushkar, local customs were observed through religious rituals and traditional markets, adding a human dimension to the journey.

This 2015 journey through Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh offered a thorough exploration of the diverse landscapes and cultures of northern India, providing a comprehensive perspective on the region's history and religious practices.
