Ramdevra

This small town near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan in northern India has attracted an impressive number of tourists and worshipers to its Baba Ramdev temple.

Baba Ramdev Pir

Baba Ramdev Pir was an Indian ruler who lived at the end of the 14th century. Deified, he was (and still is) revered for his miraculous powers which he put in the service of the poor and the oppressed. He is often represented on horseback.

Baba Ramdev took samadhi, after attaining enlightenment (for Hindus, samadhi, corresponds to a conscious exit from the mortal body) in Ramdevra and is buried there with several of his disciples. Baba Ramdev being a very important figure, considered a reincarnation of Krishna, and his devotees built a temple there. The original temple was quite ordinary which is why

the Maharajah of Bikaner, Ganga Singh built a temple in the 20th century around this place which has become sacred.

the Shri Baba Ramdev temple

The temple is impressive and it should be noted that not only Hindus revere the holy man but Muslims as well. This temple is therefore a symbol of community harmony, unfortunately too rare in India.

The temple houses several tombs of contemporary saints of Baba Ramdev.

More surprisingly, two large wooden horses adorn the temple. These horses refer to a legend about Ramdev's childhood. Unless it is to honor the horse on which Baba Ramdev is very often represented.

the market

The traders were not mistaken. Rmadevra temple attracting pilgrims and tourists alike, what better than a long shopping arcade in front of the temple entrance? Dozens of shops selling all kinds of objects, religious or not, spices and many other things have settled in this covered street. To the delight of photographers as well ...
