In 2015, a cultural journey through Cuba provided an exploration of various cities and regions, each revealing a unique aspect of the island's rich historical, musical, and architectural heritage. This itinerary offered a glimpse into Cuba's cultural diversity and colonial legacy.
The journey began in Havana, the capital, with its colorful buildings, historic squares, and iconic seafront, the Malecón. The town of Cojímar, associated with Ernest Hemingway, was also part of this stop. Next, Cienfuegos, often called the "Pearl of the South," displayed its neoclassical architecture and orderly streets, a reflection of its French colonial past.
In the eastern part of the island, Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa showcased deep Afro-Cuban cultural roots, while Bayamo, known for its role in the independence struggle, provided insight into Cuba’s revolutionary history. In Camagüey, winding streets and large squares revealed the unique colonial charm of this city.
The towns of Remedios, Sancti Spiritus, and Trinidad, along with the Valle de los Ingenios, highlighted the significance of sugar production in Cuba’s colonial economy. Matanzas and Pinar del Río, meanwhile, rounded out the journey with their plantation landscapes and musical heritage.
