In 2014, a cultural journey through Turkey provided an exploration of the country’s rich historical and architectural heritage, positioned at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. This tour across several iconic sites revealed the influences of ancient civilizations and the development of unique religious and cultural traditions.
The visit began in Anemurium, an ancient Greco-Roman city on the Mediterranean coast, offering a glimpse into well-preserved ruins, including baths and mosaics. In Konya, the spiritual center of Sufism, the Mevlana Museum provided an insight into the life and teachings of Jalal al-Din Rumi, the renowned mystical poet.
Cappadocia, with its unique landscapes of rock formations and rock-cut churches, allowed for the exploration of troglodyte dwellings and ancient Christian frescoes. The region of Gumusler, in Nigde province, also unveiled an exceptional troglodyte monastery preserving valuable Byzantine murals.
The journey continued with a stop at Sultanhani, where the Seljuk-era caravanserai demonstrates the importance of the Silk Road trade routes. Finally, the ancient city of Perge offered a glimpse into life in the Greco-Roman period, with remains such as columns, baths, and a stadium.
