In 2019, a cultural journey through Indonesia offered an exploration of the archipelago’s cultural and natural diversity, with a highlight being the encounter with orangutans in their sanctuary in Bukit Lawang, on the island of Sumatra. This itinerary provided insights into the rich cultural, spiritual, and natural heritage of various Indonesian regions.

The journey began in Jakarta, the capital, and Bandung, known for their blend of modernity and colonial heritage. In Yogyakarta, visits to the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan revealed the Buddhist and Hindu heritage of the island of Java.

On the island of Bali, the Tirta Empul temple offered a glimpse into Balinese spiritual practices, while Sukawati, with its markets, illustrated the importance of craftsmanship in daily life.

In Sumatra, the encounter with orangutans in Bukit Lawang marked a high point of the trip, allowing for observation of these primates in their natural habitat and a better understanding of conservation efforts. The journey continued with a visit to Lake Toba, a volcanic caldera surrounded by traditional villages, and stops in Balige, Sipoholon, Angkola Timur, and Bukittinggi, highlighting the culture of the Batak and Minangkabau communities.

This 2019 journey offered an immersion into Indonesia's diverse landscapes, cultures, and traditions, with a focus on natural treasures and local species conservation.
