| Maitreya | Buddha Maitreya is considered in Buddhism as the future Buddha who will appear on Earth, succeeding Gautama Buddha. Often depicted as a being of compassion, he is expected to teach the pure Dharma. Buddha Maitreya, often depicted seated on a throne, waiting for his advent, is a central figure in Buddhist eschatology. According to the scriptures, he will be born in a time when the Dharma has been forgotten, to reintroduce it and guide beings towards enlightenment. There is no mention in traditional texts of Maitreya having parents or children, as his story focuses on his future role as a spiritual teacher and guide. The legend of Maitreya is marked by his promise to restore justice and wisdom in the world, offering a new chapter in Buddhist teaching. |
