Konbaung

The Konbaung Dynasty, established in 1752 by Alaungpaya, was the last royal lineage of Myanmar before British colonization. It is noted for expanding Burmese territory and its complex interactions with neighboring colonial powers.

The Konbaung Dynasty, spanning from 1752 to 1885, marked a significant era in Myanmar’s history. It was inaugurated by King Alaungpaya who unified various regions to form a formidable kingdom. Under the reign of successors like Bodawpaya and Mindon Min, the dynasty not only consolidated its grip on the region but also undertook significant religious and administrative reforms. Interactions with Britain and other colonial forces ultimately led to three Anglo-Burmese wars, culminating in the gradual annexation of Burma by the British Empire. The Konbaung period is also notable for the development of Burmese culture, including architecture, literature, and Theravada Buddhism.
