Nabataean

The Nabataeans were an ancient people famed for their ability to adapt to desert conditions and their role in the incense and spice trade. They are best known for constructing the city of Petra in what is now Jordan.

Originating likely from the Arabian region, the Nabataeans thrived from the 4th century BC to the 2nd century AD. They developed an advanced civilization with a complex irrigation system that enabled agriculture in arid regions and established a trade network that reached as far as ancient Rome. Their architecture, with the city of Petra as the most famous example, demonstrates a high mastery of stone carving and influences from various cultures, including Hellenistic and Egyptian. After being conquered by the Romans, their culture gradually declined, but their architectural and historical legacy endures.
