Durga

Durga is a revered Hindu goddess known for her power and protective role, often depicted defeating the demon Mahishasura.

Durga is a major goddess in Hinduism, embodying divine power and protection against evil forces. According to legend, she was born from the wrath of the gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva to defeat the demon Mahishasura, who could not be killed by any man or god. Formed from the combined energies of these gods, Durga appeared armed with multiple weapons and rode a lion or tiger.

Durga is often depicted with multiple arms, each holding a weapon, symbolizing her many powers and her ability to protect the universe. Her battle against Mahishasura is a central theme in many mythological stories and is celebrated during the festival of Navratri, culminating in the Durga Puja festival, particularly popular in eastern India.

Durga is considered the divine mother and is often associated with Parvati, the wife of Shiva. Her children include Ganesha and Kartikeya. She is revered not only for her warrior strength but also for her ability to protect her devotees from evil and bring peace and prosperity. Temples dedicated to Durga are important pilgrimage sites where devotees seek her blessings.
