Wat Phra Kaew

Wat Phra Kaew, or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is Thailand's most sacred Buddhist temple, located within the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

Wat Phra Kaew, officially known as Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram, is considered the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand. Located on the eastern edge of the Grand Palace in Bangkok, this temple houses the revered Emerald Buddha, a jade statue viewed as the protector of the kingdom. Built in 1782 by King Rama I, the temple does not house monastic quarters as most temples do, since it is primarily used for royal ceremonies. Its buildings and decorations showcase the zenith of Thai art, with walls fully covered in murals depicting scenes from the Ramakien, the Thai version of the Ramayana.
