Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as Buddha, was born around 563 BCE in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, and died around 483 BCE in Kushinagar, India. As a prince of a small kingdom, he renounced his royal life to seek the truth and understanding of human suffering. After years of meditation and asceticism, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. He spent the rest of his life teaching the Dharma, the fundamental principles of Buddhism, including the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. His teachings emphasize the cessation of suffering and the attainment of Nirvana. |
