Operation BLue Star

Operation Blue Star was a military intervention launched in June 1984 by the Indian army, aimed at removing Sikh militants holed up in the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India.

Operation Blue Star was a significant event in Indian history, occurring from June 3 to 8, 1984. The Indian army, under orders from the government led by Indira Gandhi, besieged the Golden Temple, the holiest site of Sikhism, to capture Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other Sikh militants accused of extremism. The operation aimed to restore order but resulted in heavy civilian casualties and significant damage to the temple, heightening tensions between the Sikh community and the Indian government. This event also led to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards months later, sparking anti-Sikh riots across India.
