| Ganga | The Ganga dynasties were influential royal families that ruled different parts of India between the 4th and 15th centuries, notably in the southern and eastern regions. The Ganga dynasties are mainly divided into two major branches: the Eastern Gangas and the Western Gangas. The Western Gangas ruled over present-day Karnataka from the 4th to the 10th century, leaving a significant legacy in architecture and water resource management, including the construction of the Kolar temple and water reservoirs. The Eastern Gangas, based in modern-day Odisha, ruled from the 5th to the 15th century. They are well-known for their patronage of art, culture, and religion, including the construction of the Lingaraja temple in Bhubaneswar and the famous Jagannath temple in Puri. These dynasties played a crucial role in the socio-political and cultural development of their respective regions. |
