Term Definition
Digambar

Digambar is a sect of Jainism known for its strict ascetic practices, where monks renounce all material possessions, including clothing, to symbolize their complete detachment from the physical world.

The term "Digambar" means "clothed in space" or "sky-clad". Digambar monks follow a path of extreme renunciation, rejecting all forms of material possession to achieve spiritual purity. They believe that this way of life is essential to break free from the cycle of rebirths and attain moksha (liberation). Digambar temples, such as the Jain Shri Neminath Digambar Mandir, are important places of worship where devotees come to pray and meditate. These temples are often adorned with sculptures and artworks depicting scenes from the lives of the Tirthankaras, the spiritual masters of Jainism. The Digambar sect is one of the two main divisions of Jainism, the other being the Svetambar sect.
