| Yama | Yama, also known as Yamraj in Hinduism, is the god of death and the judge of souls. He is depicted as a protector of order and oversees the passage of souls to the afterlife. Yama is a central figure in Hindu mythology, often depicted as a just yet ruthless king of the afterlife. The son of the sun god Surya and Sanjna, consciousness, Yama holds a significant place in various ancient texts, including the Vedas. He is described as the first human to die and find the way to the afterlife, thus becoming the guide for all others. According to legends, Yama is assisted by two four-eyed dogs that guard the path to his abode. He has a twin sister named Yami, who is sometimes identified with the Yamuna River. Yama is also associated with justice and truth, determining the fate of souls based on their earthly actions. |
