Slave Dynasty

The Slave Dynasty, also known as the Mamluk Dynasty of Delhi, ruled over much of the Indian subcontinent in the 13th century. It is credited with laying the foundations of the Delhi Sultanate.

Founded by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 1206, the Slave Dynasty primarily comprised generals and soldiers of servile origin, mostly captured Turks or Persians. This dynasty marked the beginning of the Muslim period in Northern India with the erection of significant monuments, including the famous Qutb Minar in Delhi. Aibak's successors, particularly Iltutmish and Balban, played a crucial role in consolidating the sultanate through administrative and military reforms that stabilized and expanded their empire despite internal challenges and Mongol invasions.
