Sawai Pratap Singh was born in 1764 and ruled as the Maharaja of Jaipur from 1778 to 1803. During his reign, he commissioned several significant monuments, the most famous being the Hawa Mahal, built in 1799. This five-story palace, adorned with intricately carved windows, was designed for the royal women to observe daily life and processions without being seen. Pratap Singh was also a poet and a patron of the arts, supporting various cultural and artistic endeavors in his kingdom. His reign was marked by a particular interest in architecture, which greatly enriched Jaipur's architectural heritage. |
