| Lakshmi | Lakshmi is the goddess of fortune, wealth, prosperity, and beauty in Hinduism, worshipped as the consort of the god Vishnu and one of the principal deities of the Hindu pantheon. Lakshmi is often depicted with four arms, holding lotuses or pots of gold and accompanied by elephants, symbolizing generosity and prosperity. According to Hindu mythology, she was born from the churning of the ocean of milk, a major cosmic myth explaining the creation of various exquisite objects and deities, such as amrita, the nectar of immortality. Lakshmi is considered the daughter of the mother of the sea, Samudra Devi, and Sage Bhrigu. Her union with Vishnu produced a lineage of offspring, including the god of love, Kama. Her worship is especially fervent during Diwali, the festival of lights, where devotees seek her blessings for wealth and well-being for the coming year. |
