| Khalji | The Khalji dynasty ruled the Delhi Sultanate from 1290 to 1320, marking a period of territorial expansion and administrative reforms. The Khalji dynasty, succeeding the Slave dynasty, is particularly known for its aggressive military campaigns and administrative reforms. During the reign of Alauddin Khalji, the most notable ruler of this dynasty, the Delhi Sultanate expanded significantly, conquering much of southern India. Alauddin Khalji also implemented economic reforms and strengthened the centralized control of the state, instituting a vast surveillance system to prevent rebellions. The Khalji dynasty also left its mark on architecture, with constructions such as the Alai Darwaza in Delhi, representing the beginning of an Islamic aesthetic influenced by local traditions. The dynasty was eventually overthrown in 1320 by Ghiyath al-Din Tughlaq, leading to the rise of the Tughlaq dynasty. |
