| Jantar Mantar | Jantar Mantar is a collection of monumental astronomical instruments built in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in Jaipur, India. It is designed to measure time, predict eclipses, and track celestial movements. The Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is one of five astronomical observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh II in the early 18th century. Constructed between 1728 and 1734, this observatory comprises 19 fixed astronomical instruments, the largest of which is the Samrat Yantra, an enormous sundial. The Jantar Mantar is a remarkable example of the architectural and astronomical engineering of its time. It was used to calculate time, track the positions of stars, and predict solar and lunar eclipses. In 2010, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical and scientific significance. |
