| Guru Arjan | Guru Arjan (1563-1606) was the fifth of the ten founding Gurus of Sikhism and is noted for his role in developing the religion and compiling the Guru Granth Sahib. Born on April 15, 1563, in Goindval, Punjab, and died on May 30, 1606, Guru Arjan is a pivotal figure in Sikhism. He was the first of the Sikh Gurus to be martyred, an event that deeply impacted the Sikh community. Under his guidance, Sikhism was strengthened with the establishment of many worship centers and the completion of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, which became the spiritual center of Sikhism. Guru Arjan also compiled the writings of the first four gurus along with his own hymns to create the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs, thereby solidifying the texts and doctrines of the religion. |
