Ahimsā refers to the principle of universal non-violence, a core concept in Indian religions such as Jainism, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

The Sanskrit word ahimsā literally means “non-harm” or “non-violence”. It expresses an ethical ideal based on absolute respect for all living beings, whether human or non-human. This concept is central to Jainism, where it is applied rigorously in daily life, including diet and movement.

In Hinduism, ahimsā is linked to compassion and the principle of non-aggression within the framework of moral duties (dharma). In Buddhism, it supports the path of right action and the avoidance of negative karma.
