Tang dynasty

The Tang Dynasty, reigning from 618 to 907, is often viewed as a golden age of Chinese civilization, marked by cultural, economic, and artistic innovations.

Founded by Emperor Gaozu, the Tang Dynasty significantly influenced China, stabilizing and unifying the nation after years of conflict. During the Tang era, China saw significant economic growth, thanks to improved transportation networks and expanded trade, especially with Central Asia via the Silk Road. This period was also a highlight for the arts and culture, flourishing in poetry, painting, and sculpture. The administration was strengthened by the implementation of an imperial examination system, selecting officials based on merit rather than lineage. The Tang initially promoted Buddhism before Confucianism regained its predominant place towards the dynasty's end.
