Sahastrabahu

Sahastrabahu, also known as Kartavirya Arjuna, is a legendary king in Hindu mythology, famous for his thousand arms and extraordinary feats.

Sahastrabahu, or Kartavirya Arjuna, is an iconic figure in Hindu mythology and the son of King Kritavirya of the Haihaya dynasty. Endowed with a thousand arms by the blessing of the ascetic Dattatreya, Sahastrabahu is renowned for his immense strength and numerous conquests, including the defeat of the demon king Ravana. He ruled over Mahishmati and is often depicted as a powerful yet arrogant king. His misuse of power and arrogance ultimately led to his downfall, and he was eventually killed by Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu. The Sas Bahu temples, particularly the one at Nagda, derive their name from him, though the term is a linguistic corruption of "Sahastrabahu." These temples are dedicated to Vishnu, to whom Sahastrabahu was greatly devoted.
