Rawal Jaisal

Rawal Jaisal, born in 1115 and died in 1167, was a Rajput ruler known for founding the city of Jaisalmer in present-day Rajasthan, India. He reigned from 1156 to 1167.

Rawal Jaisal Singh, born in 1115, was a ruler of the Bhati dynasty, one of the many Rajput dynasties in northwestern India. In 1156, he founded the city of Jaisalmer, strategically choosing a location in the Thar Desert. The city is especially famous for its yellow sandstone fort, often called the "Golden Fort" due to its distinctive hue at sunset. During his reign, which lasted until his death in 1167, Jaisalmer became a significant commercial hub due to its position on the trade routes connecting India to Central Asia. The Jaisalmer Fort, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, stands as a lasting testament to his reign and strategic vision.
