Rao Jodha

Rao Jodha (1416-1489) was the founder of the city of Jodhpur and the fifteenth ruler of the Rathore clan. His reign, starting in 1438, marked a significant era for the Marwar region in present-day Rajasthan, India.

Rao Jodha, born in 1416, was the fifteenth leader of the Rathore clan and the founder of Jodhpur. His reign began in 1438 and lasted until his death in 1489. He is best known for relocating the capital of his kingdom from Mandore to Jodhpur in 1459 due to Mandore's vulnerability to invasions. This move was a turning point in the region's history as it fortified Jodhpur and initiated the construction of the monumental Mehrangarh Fort, intended to protect and symbolize the power of his kingdom. Rao Jodha is also noted for his efforts in consolidating power in the Marwar region and for initiating a period of stability and development.
