The Pratihara dynasty, also known as the Gurjara-Pratihara, was an influential Rajput dynasty that ruled northern India from the 8th to the 11th century. They are particularly renowned for their resistance to Muslim invasions, notably those of the Arabs, which helped preserve Hindu culture and traditions during this period. Their main capital was Kannauj, which became a major cultural and political center. The Pratiharas also promoted arts, architecture, and education. Temples like those at Khajuraho and fortified structures stand as testament to their architectural advancements. Their decline began in the 10th century, largely due to internal conflicts and the rise of other regional powers.
