Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, born on September 30, 1207, in Balkh (now Afghanistan) and died on December 17, 1273, in Konya (now Turkey), is one of the most revered spiritual poets in history. Trained in the Sufi tradition, Rumi founded the Order of the Whirling Dervishes, known for its meditative spinning practices symbolizing spiritual union with the divine. His works, including the famous "Masnavi", are considered pinnacles of Persian mystical poetry, exploring themes of divine love, tolerance, and spiritual connection.
