Maurya

The Maurya dynasty (321–185 BCE) was one of the most powerful and influential in ancient Indian history, establishing a vast centralized empire.

The Maurya dynasty, which ruled much of the Indian subcontinent from 321 to 185 BCE, was founded by Chandragupta Maurya. With the guidance of his advisor Chanakya, Chandragupta established a unified and centralized empire stretching from the Himalayas to the Deccan. The empire reached its zenith under Ashoka, Chandragupta’s grandson, renowned for promoting Buddhism and implementing policies based on moral principles, as evidenced by his edicts inscribed on pillars and rocks. After Ashoka’s reign, the empire declined due to weak successors. The Maurya Empire is notable for its administrative advances, organized social structures, and its significant role in spreading Buddhism.
