Lokamahadevi

Lokamahadevi was an 8th-century queen, wife of Vikramaditya II, the Chalukya king. She is renowned for her role in advancing medieval Indian architecture and sculpture.

Born around 730 and died circa 780, Lokamahadevi was the queen consort of Vikramaditya II. She played a crucial role in the cultural and architectural renaissance during the Chalukya reign. The queen is especially noted for commissioning the Virupaksha Temple at Pattadakal, a now UNESCO World Heritage site, representing the zenith of Chalukyan architecture. Her contributions not only beautified her kingdom but also set a precedent for future religious constructions in the region.
