| Haryanka | The Haryanka dynasty was the first historically documented ruling house of Magadha, a major kingdom of ancient India, active between the 6th and 5th centuries BCE. The Haryanka dynasty ruled the kingdom of Magadha, located in the Ganges Valley, from around 545 to 413 BCE. Founded by King Bimbisara, it is noted for consolidating royal authority through strategic marriage alliances and military conquests. Bimbisara established his capital at Rajagriha (modern-day Rajgir). His son Ajatashatru, who allegedly imprisoned his father to ascend the throne, continued expansionist policies and built defensive fortifications. Under their rule, Magadha became a major political, economic, and religious center, especially due to its early association with Buddhism. The dynasty ended with the rise of the Shishunaga dynasty. |
