| Gurkha | The Gurkhas are Nepalese soldiers renowned for their bravery and discipline. Originating from the Gorkha region, they have served in armies such as those of the United Kingdom and India since the 19th century. The Gurkhas are an elite group of soldiers from Nepal, primarily recruited from the Gorkha region. Their reputation as fierce warriors dates back to the time of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified Nepal in the 18th century. After the Anglo-Nepalese War of 1814-1816, the British were impressed by their bravery and began recruiting them into their army. Since then, the Gurkhas have played a key role in numerous global conflicts, including both World Wars, where they distinguished themselves through discipline and combat effectiveness. They are famously known for their traditional weapon, the kukri, a curved knife used for both combat and daily tasks. Today, Gurkhas continue to serve in the armed forces of several countries, particularly the UK and India, where they are highly respected for their military skills and loyalty. |
