Guhilot

The Guhilot dynasty, founded in the 6th century, is one of the most influential royal lineages in Rajasthan's history, known for its patronage and resilience.

The Guhilot dynasty is one of India’s oldest royal lineages, founded in the 6th century following the fall of the Vallabhi kingdom in modern-day Gujarat. They established their power in the Mewar region, with successive capitals in Nagda, Chittorgarh, and Udaipur. The Guhilots are renowned for their architectural contributions, including temples like Sas Bahu in Nagda and the Jain temples of Ranakpur. Their influence peaked between the 8th and 13th centuries before declining under the pressure of Muslim invasions. Their descendants, the Sisodias, carried on their legacy, turning Mewar into a bastion of resistance against the Mughals.
