Gerasa

Gerasa, now known as Jerash in Jordan, was part of the Decapolis, a league of cities in the Late Antiquity known for its rich blend of Greco-Roman and Arab cultures.

Founded during the Hellenistic period, Gerasa flourished under the Roman Empire, becoming a significant urban center marked by sophisticated architecture. The city was particularly prosperous from the 1st to the 3rd century AD, during which it was adorned with colonnades, theaters, majestic temples, and other typical Roman city infrastructures such as baths and triumphal arches. These structures are remarkably well-preserved and offer a glimpse into urban life in antiquity. Following Persian and Muslim invasions, the city declined, but its ruins remain among the most impressive in the Middle East.
