| Confucius | Confucius, born Kong Qiu, was an influential Chinese philosopher, born in 551 BC and died in 479 BC. He founded Confucianism, a philosophy focused on moral and social values. Confucius is a central figure in Chinese thought, whose teachings focused on creating a harmonious social order through respect for hierarchies and rituals (li). His ideas emphasize the importance of family, education, and personal and governmental justice. His dialogues and ideas are compiled in the "Analects". Although he never held high office, his influence has shaped philosophy, ethics, and education in China and other parts of East Asia for millennia. His teachings were adopted as an official doctrine by many Chinese rulers throughout history. |
