| Ambubachi Mela | Ambubachi Mela is an annual festival celebrated at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, marking the menstruation period of the goddess Kamakhya. The Ambubachi Mela, also known as the Eastern Mahakumbh, is one of the most important and sacred festivals in Assam, celebrated at the Kamakhya Temple. This four-day festival occurs during the month of Asadha (June-July) to mark the menstruation period of the goddess Kamakhya. It is believed that the earth becomes impure for three days, during which the temple remains closed. On the fourth day, after cleansing the temple, the doors are reopened and devotees are invited to enter to receive the blessings of the goddess. Rituals include offerings, chanting of mantras, and symbolic sacrifices. The festival draws millions of pilgrims from across India and abroad. |
