Ahilyabai Holkar (1725-1795) was a prominent ruler of India, celebrated for her enlightened reign as the Queen of the Maratha Empire from 1767 to 1795. She is noted for her adept administration and her patronage of arts and religion.

Born on May 31, 1725, and died on August 13, 1795, Ahilyabai Holkar, often referred to as the "Philosopher Queen," ruled over Indore in the Maratha Empire. She succeeded her father-in-law, Malhar Rao Holkar, as the head of the Holkar domain after her husband, Khanderao Holkar, died in 1754. Her reign, which began in 1767, was characterized by development initiatives including building roads, renovating dilapidated temples, and establishing new pilgrimage centers. She is also famed for her justice and equitable governance, which have left a lasting impact on the region.
