Sunnism

Sunnism is the most widespread branch of Islam, representing about 85-90% of Muslims worldwide, characterized by adherence to the Sunna, the teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad.

Sunnism is based on the belief in the legitimacy of the first four caliphs (the "Rightly Guided Caliphs") as successors to the Prophet Muhammad. Sunnis are distinguished by their recognition of the authority of hadiths, accounts of the prophet's words and actions, which, along with the Quran, form the basis of Islamic law (Sharia). Sunnism also emphasizes the role of the community (ummah) in interpreting sacred texts and legislating. This branch of Islam is predominant in most Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and Indonesia, deeply influencing the cultural, social, and political aspects of societies where it is practiced.
