The Mekong, from Vietnam to Cambodia
Between the border of Vietnam and Phnom Penh in Cambodia, life seems to be a long calm river. This is largely because we went outside of the monsoon season.
The journey between Chau Doc and Phnom Penh is approximately 140 kilometers.
On the banks of the river we can see the small houses of fishermen who have settled at the water's edge, children playing and thin cows grazing on the grass.
On the river itself, life is also peaceful. Typical small embarkations, of those with which we painted eyes on the bow to chase away the evil eye, small local transports or sometimes venture as far as the capital with their load.
You can also see the long canoes that bring the fruit to the market. In this region, the freshness of fruits and vegetables is a mark of respect, and you should not play with that.
And finally, unfortunately, there are water hyacinths, this invasive plant that chokes rivers and which is extremely difficult to get rid of.
After some formalities at the border post to obtain our visa, we set off again for the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh.
about the place, Mékong:
The Mekong is the fourth largest river in Asia. The river has its source in China on the heights of the Himalayas and crosses Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam before ending in one of the most important deltas in the world. It covers a total of more than 4,500 kilometers.
Spoken comments in the film:
There are much more romantic trips on the Mekong, but to choose between a bus, a plane or the Mekong to pass from South Vietnam to the capital of Cambodia, the solution of a fast boat seems by far the best. Firstly because 140 kilometers in these regions are covered more quickly on water than on the road and then for the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
