India - Rajasthan and Varanasi 2015

Rajasthan and Varanasi

India has always intrigued us, but we still had no idea if the country would please us or not ...

After some hesitation, we signed up for a combined Rajasthan and Varanasi trip (in Uttar Pradesh), our first trip to India.

These 3 weeks first allowed us to see the sites of Agra and Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh, after a quick visit to Delhi since this is where we landed.

Our first visit to Rajasthan was for Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.

Then we visited the camel and horse market in Pushkar.

After Pushkar we headed for Udaipur by making a small detour through Ranakpur to visit the marvelous Jain temple and the small temple dedicated to Vishnu in Nagda.

Then head to Jodhpur, Ramdevra before arriving at Jaisalmer. A little camel ride and we set off to see the cranes demoiselle de Phalodi before arriving at Bikaner.

From Bikaner, a small hook towards Deshnoke, to visit the rat temple.

On the way back to Delhi, a very interesting visit to Mandawa and its havelis (mansions abandoned since the Silk Road lost its importance).

After a short day of rest in Delhi, we flew to Varanasi (Benares) before returning by train to Delhi and leaving India.
